![]() ![]() I have a few more posts on that site than I do here :-) I used Amazon reviews almost exclusively when making purchasing decisions, that is until I discovered Reddit. ![]() If it makes you feel better, you can search Amazon as well, as I posted the same review there. I can appreciate that a glowing review from a new user may look suspicious, I have the same reservations when using Yelp. The information posted by users on the Abode forum was instrumental in my decision making process and thus I felt obligated to return the favour (one good deed deserves another). I utilized the forum to dig up reviews and find out system capabilities and draw backs from the user reviews. I came across the Reddit Abode forum from a Google search. I actually first interfaced with the site when I started my Home Alarm / Automation system research several weeks ago. Overall, I am very pleased with my Abode purchase and would recommend the system to family and friends. I did run into a bit of a snag with one of my outdoor sirens, it keeps indicating a tamper warning, not sure why, but I suspect I need to perform a hard reset and/or adjust the tamper lever as per the manual recommendations. I have grouped my sensors, created CUE home automation rules and set up a couple of IFTTT routines, as well as, created a few Quick Actions, all without reading a single manual or help file. The Abode phone app and web interface software are easy to use and intuitive. I am already planning to expand my system by adding 4 more H20 sensors, an additional door sensor for the garage and a water shut off valve for flood prevention. The automation routines are relatively simple but more than what I require for my current home automation needs. In fact, when comparing the IOTA's image quality to the remote 1080p camera, I do see a noticeable difference in IOTAS image formation and overall fidelity. With all the poor reviews Abode received on their 1080p remote camera, I wasn't expecting as crisp and clear of an image, so I might be overstating the image quality, and if I am that is only because of the low expectations set by previous reviews. The IOTA's video quality is better than I expected. I do suggest following the setup instructions that come with the various hardware modules, as well as, referencing the online documentation for proper setup, especially for the siren mounting and installation. I am still contemplating the final placement for the IOTA, but think I am close to finding it a final resting place. ![]() It took longer to figure out the ideal mounting placement for the Photo/Motion Sensors then the actual system configuration. I currently have my IOTA configured with the following Abode hardware ģ (x) Motion sensors with 640 (x) 480 cameras I recently purchased and deployed my first DIY Alarm System and I must say, I am impressed! The IOTA by Abode is a feature rich and capable alarm system with some home automation abilities included. Usernames are OK.ĭo not spam your blog or website.
